HFF Nature is a nature film production company, environmental advocate, and strategic partner to projects that protect biodiversity through science, storytelling, and policy. We produce high-quality nature documentaries, fund citizen science efforts, support large-scale rewilding initiatives, and engage with lawmakers and stakeholders to shape conservation policy in the U.S. and internationally.

Our work is rooted in the belief that protecting the natural world requires both public imagination and concrete action. Through film, we elevate underrepresented ecosystems and threatened species. Through science, we invest in tools like bioacoustic monitoring and ecological mapping to better understand and protect the world’s most critical wild places. And through advocacy, we promote market-aligned policies that reward conservation and responsible land stewardship.

HFF Nature began in 2014 as the Rhino Action Fund (RAF), an initiative of the Hagan Family Foundation based in Roswell, Georgia. RAF focused on supporting rhino conservation efforts in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, particularly working with breeders and protected reserves during a time of increasing poaching.

Following the legalization of domestic rhino horn trade in South Africa, the organization re-evaluated its mission. RAF was restructured as the HFF Nature Trust, broadening its scope beyond rhinos to include global biodiversity, ecological restoration, and science-driven conservation policy. Today, these efforts operate under HFF Nature Limited, a Colorado-based limited liability company established for maximum flexibility in how we pursue our mission and deploy resources.

Parties interested in supporting our work—whether through direct funding or philanthropic collaboration—may do so through our affiliated 501(c)(3), the Hagan Family Foundation, headquartered in the Atlanta, Georgia metro-area. To date 98% of HFF Nature’s initiatives have been funded by the Hagan family.

Nature receives a strikingly small share of overall philanthropic funding. You’d be surprised by how much even modest amounts of capital can achieve in this day and age. At HFF Nature, we remain guided by a simple but urgent mission: to tell compelling stories that reconnect people to the larger narrative of the natural world, to protect Earth’s most valuable ecosystems through creative, market-based, and measurable approaches, and to put forward innovative policies that permanently rewild the land and sea. HFF Nature exists to connect people, projects, and capital to the most critical front lines of conservation.

HFF Nature was founded and is chaired by Chadwick (Chad) Hagan, who spent years as a mountaineer and wilderness guide before turning his efforts toward nature protection.
